The market and applications of polyester spunbond nonwoven products in building materials cover a wide range of materials. When it comes to the use of spunbond nonwoven fabrics, the main materials refer to roof waterproofing materials, followed by materials for wall insulation and soundproofing, wall base waterproofing, pipeline protection, underground drainage, and preventing tree roots from growing and damaging buildings. Currently in China, the application is mainly concentrated in the field of roof waterproofing materials.
In European and American countries, especially in Europe, this superior waterproof material has been widely used since the late 1980s and early 1990s, with a market share of over 40%, and most of them are made of PET spunbond tire cord. China's application of polyester tire cord started relatively late, with a consumption of only 20 million m2 by 2000. However, since entering the new century, new waterproof materials have developed rapidly. By 2002, the application of modified asphalt waterproofing rolls with PET fiber as the tire cord had reached 70 million m2 and continued to grow. It is predicted that in the next five years, modified asphalt waterproofing rolls will continue to develop at a relatively fast pace, and their proportion in the total market will increase to over 20% by 2010. The potential market for new waterproof materials in China is very large (about 800-1000 million m2). With the continuous deepening of China's economic development, PET spunbond tire cord has an optimistic development prospect.
The application of geotextiles in foreign countries began as early as the 1960s. The United States is the country with the largest consumption of geotextiles in the world. Its annual consumption was over 300 million m2 in the early 1990s, and it has reached 700 million m2 in recent years. Geotextiles in Europe and Japan have also developed rapidly. In recent years, the annual consumption of geotextiles in Europe has been around 400 million m2, with spunbond nonwoven fabrics accounting for about 60% of nonwoven geotextiles. In Japan, the application of geotextiles has increased significantly since the mid-1990s. Among Japanese nonwoven geotextiles, spunbond fabrics are the most widely used, accounting for about 60% of the total nonwoven geotextiles, and mainly PET spunbond fabrics.
China's geotextile industry started in the early 1980s, but the usage at that time was minimal and only applied on a trial basis. It was not until the catastrophic floods in 1998 that attracted the government's attention. The construction department incorporated the application of geotextiles into design specifications and formulated relevant national standards, marking the real recognition and development of geotextiles. Currently, the usage of geotextiles in China has exceeded 300 million m2, with nonwoven geotextiles accounting for about 40% of the total. China's civil engineering construction has a huge potential market, and its potential is by no means inferior to the current usage of 700 to 800 million m2 in the United States. Experts estimate that China's geotextile industry will continue to grow at a double-digit rate in the next 15 years, with the fastest growth being in PET spunbond filament geotextiles.
During the '10th Five-Year Plan' and '11th Five-Year Plan' periods, China planned significant investments in various projects including water conservancy, electricity, transportation, environmental protection, and river regulation. These projects encompassed water conservancy construction, the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, electricity investment, highway and railway construction, environmental engineering construction, as well as ports, airports, waste disposal, river, lake, and sea regulation, sand control, and other related projects, with a total investment amounting to over one trillion yuan. In the next 10 years or even longer, China will have more infrastructure projects to be constructed, and the demand for geotextiles will also increase. China will become the largest marketing market for geosynthetics in the world.
Domestic production capacity of PET spunbond nonwoven fabrics
Currently, China boasts approximately 9 PET spunbond production lines with a combined production capacity of around 31,000 tons per year. Among them, Yizheng Nonwoven Fabric Factory, Hunan Nonwoven Fabric Factory, Henan Sanli Company, Shanghai Jiashmaiwei Company, and Jiangxi Guoqiao Company have introduced production lines from Italy or West Germany, while Shaoxing Lida, Xinjiang Tianli, Xichuan Nonwoven Fabric, Dalian Hengda, Zhejiang Yongguang Nonwoven Fabric Factory, and others operate domestic production lines. The minimum width of these production lines ranges from 2.4m to 6m, with a maximum production capacity of 4,500 tons per year and a minimum production capacity of 1,000 tons per year. The 4.5m-wide PET spunbond geotextile and asphalt felt base fabric dual-purpose production line designed and manufactured by the Textile Industry Nonwoven Technology Development Center and operated at Xinjiang Tianli Company stands out as a domestically produced equipment with high production capacity and excellent product quality, achieving an annual production capacity of 3,500 tons per year.
Currently, the main products produced by these production lines include geotextiles, engineering impermeable materials, building waterproof materials, composite reinforcement materials, automotive fabrics, cushioning materials, shoe chemical sheets, etc. Their prospects are quite promising.
Home textiles and composite materials are widely used in home textiles, composite materials, luggage materials, etc., based on the characteristics of spunbond nonwoven fabrics such as aging resistance and high temperature resistance. Through high-temperature transfer printing, high-end and affordable fabrics are produced; and due to its aging resistance, it is widely recognized by consumers.
